This World Rabies Day, we need your help!
On the 29th August, our mega fundraising mission begins! We want to raise as much as we can in just 30 days. Why? Because thousands of people still die of rabies every day, the majority of which are children. We are changing this, but we can't do it alone!
how can you help?
We are asking you to donate or fundraise as much as you can over 30 days. We've come up with some targets to get you started which all link to key statistics about this deadly disease:
- £59: an estimated 59,000 people die of rabies every year, despite it being 100% vaccine-preventable. By choosing this fundraising target you'll only have to raise a maximum of £2 a day!
- £100: 100 children die from rabies every day, that's about one child losing their life from this horrific disease every 10 minutes. By educating children on how to stay safe around dogs we are making this a thing of the past. At around £3 a day this is an easy target to aim for!
- £250: The average cost of a dog vaccination is £2.50 per dog. Nearly all human rabies cases are caused by infected dog bites. By running mass canine vaccination drives we are stopping rabies at its source and cutting the disease at its source. By raising just over £8 a day you will help us to vaccinate 100 dogs against rabies.
Want to pick a different amount? You're welcome to fundraise as much as you like so aim high and as long as you fundraise a minimum of £30 then feel free to pick your own target! If you're donating then please give as much or as little as you can! Every penny counts in the fight against rabies! We'd love to see how your fundraising is going. Make sure to tag us in any photos on social media and regularly update your Justgiving pages. We want to spread the word this World Rabies Day and make sure as many people as possible know about what is being done to combat this disease. Together, we can work towards a day when nobody dies from rabies!
what else do we have planned for world rabies day?
We're hosting a skydive on Sunday 23rd September for some dare-devil supporters to get involved with! If you'd like to be one of them, find out all you need to know by clicking here. The fundraising target for a 10,000ft jump is £350 and £450 for 15,000ft!! Book your jump here!
On World Rabies Day itself we'll also be keeping you updated with what's going on in the field from our projects around the world. We'll also be working alongside our friends at Merck Animal Health to host a rabies Q&A session throughout the day on Twitter! Look out for tweets from our very own Fred, Jo, Gowri and Imogen using #EraseRabies
So what are you waiting for? Do something incredible in 30 days and help us eliminate rabies!
