Last week Dr Andy Gibson (Epidemiology and Research Manager) welcomed key members from the world of rabies research to the WVS Hicks ITC.

We welcomed Dr Bernadette Abela-Ridder (Team Leader of the Neglected Zoonotic Diseases in the Department of the Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases) from the World Health Organisation and Dr Vos, an expert in rabies vaccines, to our project in Goa. They were able to see an engaging class by our Education Officer, Ashok, teaching hundreds of school children how to stay safe from rabies.

We then visited the WVS Hicks ITC and rabies isolation facility in North Goa before heading down to the south to meet up with the vaccination teams catching dogs in Ponda. Dr Abela-Ridder even got stuck-in and vaccinated one of the stray dogs caught by the team.

Dr Sudarshan, an eminent rabies researcher, physician and founder of the Indian Rabies Association (APCRI) joined us on the Mission Rabies Goa Campaign. He was joined by a WHO film crew to document the work going on to put an end to rabies in Goa and stop people from dying from this awful disease.

It was a pleasure for the team to spend time with such significant rabies thought leaders and we would like to thank them for all of their support and guidance on our work.
